Austin Energy crews to prune trees near electric lines in Lakewood

Crews from Austin Energy, the City of Austin’s electric utility, will come to Lakewood starting in about two weeks to prune or remove trees near electric lines. Before work starts, Austin Energy says it will try to contact each property owner with trees that might be affected and work with the owner to reach an agreement on work performed. The process is spelled out in this letter from Austin Energy to the Lakewood HOA.

The National Electric Safety Vode requires Austin Energy to maintain its lines to ensure safety and reliable electric service.

Lakewood garage sales will beckon bargain hunters June 4

It’s garage sale time again! Lakewood’s communitywide semi-annual garage sale is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 4, in garages and yards across our neighborhood.

Here’s how it works: You conduct your own sale at your own home on your own terms. The HOA coordinates the scheduling and promotions. This way, instead of having dozens of smaller sales scattered around the neighborhood throughout the year, we coordinate our efforts to have more people come all on one morning. This keeps traffic to a minimum in the neighborhood the rest of the year.

More than 30 households typically participate, and hundreds of bargain hunters visit the community. Participation is free. You may place a small sign in your front yard. Just please remove the sign by 1 pm.

Questions? Contact the HOA office at 512-345-8367 from 8 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays.

HOA board members chosen

Thanks to the Lakewood homeowners who filled the clubhouse for Saturday’s annual general meeting and to all who sent their proxy vote for HOA board members. Homeowners re-elected Keith McGill and elected Roland Galang and Rachel Upshaw to the HOA board. The positions have two-year terms. Lakewood thanks Dave Brockman for his dedicated service on the board. Participants also heard a presentation about wildfire safety and reviewed the annual budget.

Annual homeowners’ meeting is May 14

All Lakewood homeowners are invited to the annual meeting of the Lakewood Homeowners Association at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14. We will serve a barbecue lunch and pastries, too.

Three board members are open for 2022: Keith McGill and Dave Brockman are up for re-election, and Roland Galang and Rachel Upshaw are running. The positions have two-year terms.

This is your chance to meet all board members and officers, who volunteer their time to serve all homeowners and protect your investment in the community of Lakewood. The HOA board extends a special invitation to homeowner who bought their homes from 2020 through 2022.

Homeowners should have received a mailout for the meeting with an agenda, budget, common area risk assessment and directed proxy/ballot.

In the past, it has been difficult to achieve a quorum to conduct business. Each time we schedule a meeting it costs about $1,500, so please give us your proxy/ballot even if you plan to attend.

To speak at the annual meeting, please register in advance by May 9. To register, call the office at 512-258-8200 or email hoa@lakewoodhoa.com with your name, address and topic. Those registered in advance will have up to three minutes to speak.
