Pool renovation is underway; main and children’s pools closed for extensive project

Work is underway on the long-awaited renovation of the Lakewood swimming pool and children’s pool.

The HOA has contracted with Solid Group of Hutto at a cost of $74,834 to complete the work by about the start of summer, weather permitting. Work began March 29 with removal of plaster in the children’s pool. The pools closed at that time.

The project includes:

  • Repair of broken coping (the decorative edge where we sit with our feet in the water), using pieces salvaged on site
  • Demolition of plaster waterline tile, depth marking tiles at the waterline, swim lane tiles, kick pad tiles and step edge tiles
  • Replacement of plaster, tile, wall steps, rope anchors and drain covers
  • Replacement of sand filter media (used to filter out debris) with modified glass media for the four filters of the main pool
  • Replacement of filter with equivalent-sized glass media filter for the children’s pool
  • Refilling of both pools with water from Lakewood’s source; provide chemicals, balance water chemistry, maintain water chemistry and brush plaster as required for 21 days after refilling the pools
  • Instruction to maintain the pools properly

Colors of the new tile are shown below. The first two images below show tile samples for (at left) the swim lanes and kick pads and (at right) the border under the coping. The photo at bottom shows the sample for the plaster.

The Solid Group proposal was one of three received and reviewed by the HOA Board. A separate contract was awarded to Empire Fence Co. of Leander to replace the ornamental iron fencing around the children’s pool at a cost of $3,520

Pool closed during construction project

Construction is underway on the renovation of the Lakewood pool. The crew began draining the pool on Friday (March 28), and today (March 29) they started on the kiddie pool. The pool is closed while the project is underway. Work is estimated to be completed by summer, weather permitting. The HOA appreciates your patience.

Call for candidates for HOA board!

Are you interested in serving your Lakewood community? Consider submitting your candidacy for the Lakewood HOA Board of Directors by 5 p.m. March 31.

A board member must be a Lakewood property owner in good standing (no delinquencies or violations of the HOA’s covenants, conditions and restrictions, aka our CCRs), serve a two-year term starting June 2, attend monthly meetings and occasional work sessions, participate in community events, lead and support projects that improve communication and transparency in Lakewood, and become familiar with the CCRs. Two positions are becoming open.

If interested, please complete and submit this Google form, which asks these questions:

  • How long have you lived in Lakewood?
  • Why are you interested in serving on the Lakewood HOA board?
  • What qualifications do you bring?
  • What experience have you had with a board of directors?
  • What else would you like to share with the HOA Board?

A nominating committee chaired by HOA Board Member Dave Brockman and consisting of homeowners Beth Brooks, Thomas Nelms and Julia Taylor will review nominations.

The board will then review submitted biographies at its April 7 meeting and select candidates for homeowners to consider on a ballot at the HOA annual meeting scheduled for May 12 at the Lakewood Clubhouse.
